Pressure treated (PT)lumber is one option which is cheaper, made generally from southern yellow pine wood, this is treated with chemicals and paints. But it is found to be unstable as wood shrinks and affects dimensionally that may create big gaps in decking after some time. Redwood and Cedar wood are considered by many as superior wood which contain tannin and oils which preserve it from rot and decay.
